J-EXPO

J-EXPO is an exhibition series, established in 2008, that celebrates Japanese aesthetics and spirituality through online and in-person showcases. Each year, works inspired by specific themes are exhibited to revitalize Japanese culture and share its beauty with a global audience.

Alongside exhibitions, J-EXPO features interviews with prominent figures in Japanese culture and the arts, offering insights into their philosophies. This year, the series expands to include projection displays at the Brooklyn+Japan Festival, providing a broader audience with immersive experiences of Japanese art and culture.

The theme for April 2025 is "Wabi-Sabi."

Wabi-sabi is a uniquely Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in impermanence and imperfection. The perspective of coexisting with nature, embracing the changing seasons, and capturing fleeting moments offers fresh insights, even in the modern era. This exhibition explores the poetic and delicate theme of wabi-sabi, seeking to uncover deeper truths beyond the surface of things and expressions that resonate with human emotions. Through the passage of time and the transformation of forms, this theme, rooted in Japan's cultural heritage, aims to present a wide range of works transcending cultural and national boundaries.
